HAMDEN, CT –Nearly 50 athletes arrived to participate in the Connecticut Chiefs final open tryout of the offseason yesterday evening. “I feel tonight we took a huge step toward getting better” said Head Coach Carl Bond, “we signed a good mix of experienced indoor football players and young guys looking for their first professional opportunity”.

The Chiefs signed 6’4 Offensive Tackle Andrae Townsel. A starter at Howard University, Townsel has held professional roster spots with the Washington Redskins and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. “Andrae gives us the leadership and experience we need on this team” said Bond, “he’ll help us secure the offensive line and give us instant credibility with other veteran players interested in signing”. The Chiefs also inked youthful Fitchburg State standout receiver Taylor Ekstrom. Ekstrom was one of the top receivers for the Falcons and was named captain his senior year.

The Chiefs will open up their training camp at the end of February and kickoff their season on March 17th against the conference favorite Vermont Bucks. “We have a lot of work to do between now and when we open against the Bucks” said Bond, “we feel the players we brought in and our coaching staff can make us very competitive for a first year program”.
